.......... Frequently Asked Questions

My group couldn't complete the budget activity in Session 2, "Making Ends Meet," in the time we had.  Can you suggest a way to shorten the activity?

One good way is to fill in some of the blanks on the Bond family's one-month budget sheet. With some of the work done for them, participants can devote their time to the areas of the budget that require more decision-making.  Click here to download a partially completed form that you can reproduce and use with your group.
During Session 3, "What Would You Choose?" participants in my group wondered why Annie didn't try other things.  It seemed to them that the two choices she faced were not the only choices she might make.  Should we have tried to come up with other solutions for her?
No. Remember that the point of the activity is to experience what Annie is experiencing. The participants should try to become Annie, not to remake Annie as themselves. Emphasize that Annie has already thought about other things she might try, and, for one reason or another, she has decided that they are not available to her or will not work for her. There are other options for other people, but not for Annie. She has only two options at each decision point.
